We really like the Apple MFi certification with the auto connect feature. We also like the small footprint of this receipt printer. Overall this is one easy and fast printer to setup. The Apple MFi makes it real easy. You just turn the printer on within range of your iPad.

The Star Micronics SM-S230i is light weight at only 7.7 ounces. It is small and easy to carry around. If you’re someone who sell at a farmers market, craft fair or some other place where mobility is very important, the Star Micronics SM-S230i may be what you need. It uses thermal paper and connects to your iPhone, iPad with bluetooth or USB. Here is the user manual for the Star Micronics SM-S230i.
The Ethernet printers compatible with the app are thermal printers. They require heat-sensitive paper and won’t work with non-thermal receipt paper. These types of printers aren’t ideal for kitchens or high-temperature working areas.
The Square app is compatible with a wide variety of third-party hardware accessories. Below, you’ll find a list of supported accessories for Android devices, where to purchase them, and information on getting set up.
@SSmobile @Kevin7 – I went ahead and moved both of your comments over to the thread where we are tracking this feature request. I totally understand your frustration and desire for Epson support. They make a mean printer that is also a fraction of the cost of most Star printers. I have personally passed this feedback along to our product team, and expanding compatibility is something that is top of mind for them. I’ll update this thread if/when this functionality is added in the future!
The rest of the peripheral library code was also reusable. Admittedly, our deep class hierarchy was rather intimidating when I first came to Square, but it ended up being possibly my greatest resource in writing this feature. At the highest level, Register has a Peripheral class to model every hardware device we support. It includes common properties like manufacturer name, model name, and its connection state. At the next level down is the Printer class, which encapsulates printer-specific information like the kind of data it can print and its print width, as well as abstract methods for printing images and text. Having this infrastructure in place made the design of the Bluetooth printer class clearer, and provided a clean, generic API for the rest of the app to use to print images and text to any printer, leaving the low-level details of the printer communication to the subclasses.
This is one of the more common receipt printers used with Square Payments. It generally costs less than $200. It come in white and black color. It has an auto-cutter to slice receipt paper for you. It uses thermal paper so you never never need to fill it with ink. It is generally easy to maintain and add paper when you need it. So this is a printer that works well in a wide variety of environments. However, if you are in a kitchen or some area where the air is moist you may want to get an impact printer as thermal paper does not work well in moist environments where there is little ventilation. Here is the user manual for the Star Micronics SM-S230i.
Bluetooth printing was a great project — it brought many unique engineering challenges and taught me a lot about how Square’s code base works. I’ve always been taught to use inheritance when possible to organize and share code, but working with the peripheral class hierarchy was a strong reminder of just how valuable a good, well-organized, object-oriented architecture can be. There was a lot of shared code between WiFi and Bluetooth printers that I could have copied and pasted, but I’m glad that I took the time to not just make it work, but to do it right. I’m thankful that my co-workers pushed me to take the time to experiment with different abstractions of concurrency. Not only is my code better, but I now know many ways to approach the problem. In software, there’s rarely just one solution, and this is a good reminder to explore every possibility before choosing one — because it was the first idea that seemed to work.
I am sure that this has been asked and answered, but the search feature on this communities site is not very robust and the information I’ve been able to gather from square/communities is not entirely clear. So I am asking again (maybe).
Be sure the printer and the iPad are connected to the same network. To confirm this or change your Wi-Fi network, go to the iPad’s Settings and tap “Wi-Fi” located in the left sidebar. Then select the network that the router is broadcasting and click “Connect”.

Generally speaking, the Star printers will just show TSP100 on the front of the actual printer but those are the model numbers; it is kind of confusing. Feel free to share a link or two to the printers you’re viewing, I’d be happy to confirm.

I have a friend who runs a small shop and knew the Esky ES-CD01 Heavy Duty RJ-12 Key-Lock Cash Drawer would be perfect for his application. This drawer was a massive upgrade to the system he had been using. He had tried other drawers with different connections and designs, however this one was really the best.

I’d like to take a step back from discussing integration challenges to mention a few examples from the Square Register code base that made my life easier for this project. The code separates operations looking for connected peripherals and interacting with them and uses abstract superclasses to provide a consistent API to the rest of the app. Because the code was so robust, my new printer code fit well into the rest of the app, and existing code used by other printers fit well into my own new code. One good example is our receipt image renderer. The renderer works by putting data into an HTML document styled by CSS, rendering that HTML into an unseen web view and then rendering the view into PNG image data that can be sent to the printer. The HTML and CSS scale to fit different-sized windows and thus are a good generalizable solution for multiple print widths. All of the printers that we had previously supported (WiFi and USB printers) printed three-inch wide receipts. However most of the Bluetooth printers I worked with use two-inch wide paper. Thanks to the flexibility of our renderer, all I had to do was set the correct print width of a printer and voilà — the receipts were seamlessly resized and looked great.
Implementing Bluetooth printing introduced new limitations in parallel processing and communication that required me to rethink how we manage concurrency in our printing system. If you’re familiar with multi-threaded code, you probably already realize that expensive operations, such as peripheral communication, downloading and uploading, and heavy computation, are best run asynchronously off the main UI thread. In our code for WiFi printing, this is done using the most basic functionality of Grand Central Dispatch (GCD), one of Apple’s built-in mechanisms for managing concurrent tasks. For more detailed info about GCD, read Apple’s documentation . Each print operation and printer discovery operation is added to a global concurrent queue that runs the code on a private thread, abstracting away the mechanics of threading. The result of this is that the different operations are allowed to run in parallel with no restraints and no control.
This video, from http://www.beaglehardware.com, describes how to connect the approved printer and cash drawer to Square Register. With Square Register, you can print receipts for your customers at the counter. Connect to a cash drawer to make change for customers and store cash. The cash drawer will automatically open when connected to a supported receipt printer for every cash transaction and refund on your iPad or Android device.
I started off the implementation of Bluetooth printer support by using the same concurrency model used by our WiFi printer code and running Bluetooth printing and printer discovery blocks on a global concurrent queue. I quickly found what appeared to be a non-deterministic bug — sometimes I could print a receipt with no problem, and other times it would fail part way through. What I was in fact encountering was a timer firing and searching for connected printers while the app was in the middle of sending data to a printer. While this behavior was perfectly acceptable in communication for WiFi printers (TCP supports multiple simultaneous connections), it totally broke down in the new communication channel. It became clear that some kind of mutual exclusion was necessary to prevent this kind of collision.
If you are using your iPad or iPhone by itself with the Square app, you will not be able to use a USB Star Micronics Printer. You will need either a Bluetooth Receipt Printer, or Ethernet Receipt Printer. A good reason for going with Ethernet, is that you can have multiple devices print to one printer. If you are using an Android device, you can use either an Ethernet Receipt Printer, or and of the USB Receipt Printer stated above as long as you use the USB OTG(on the go) adapter. Please note, Bluetooth is not currently supported on Android for Square.
The Star Micronics TSP143IIILAN works with Square Payments. Star Micronics is a well known manufacturer of receipt printers. They make many different models. You connect to a Square iPad stand with a USB cable. This receipt printer uses 80 mm width or 3 1/8 inch width thermal paper for the receipts. There is a roll of paper that ships with the receipt printer. An auto cutter mechanism cuts the receipt paper for you when you make a sale.

– The strongest positive is its intent and when set up a specific way, it works perfectly so far. I’m visually impaired and have used free-arm copy stands in the past when working as a Data Entry operator. I like the free-arm design because instead of requiring me to go to the document, I can bring the document to me.
The only thing I’ve found to negatively criticize is that the enclosure bag’s zipper is a bit stiff to operate, with its not very generously sized pull tab both small and slippery to grip. Perhaps the zipper’s action will free up with more use.

A simple print button on the tablet application would allow us to connect to a local or network printer and print the same form data. Why is this still impossible? Why can we still not utilize our desktop or local printers to print receipt data from the app?

The printer is great and works as described, but the product description is misleading. It says that it is a bluetooth printer AND cash drawer, which would imply they both are bluetooth. In the extra bullet points it further states its not a usb cash drawer (which would lead one to believe it was bluetooth because nothing else works with Square). What they send is a cash drawer that connects via a phone jack cable. This is not stated anywhere in the description. I needed a bluetooth cash drawer to go with the bluetooth printer and my wireless computer system. It also advertises that it is for a SQUARE POS system. Well, that uses USB or bluetooth. NOT A STUPID PHONE JACK CABLE!! I looked all over for what I thought this was and find it isn’t! Very disappointed. Now what do I do with a useless cash drawer? Oversize paperweight?
Great product and great company to work with. I at first ordered the TSP143U which is a USB Printer to work with a Tablet to set up a POS system at my business. Once I got it, I realized that if I had the printer plugged into the tablet there was no additional port to then charge the tablet. I contacted the company and they gladly accepted my return and let me reorder this LAN Printer. I highly recommend this vendor and their product.
When you connect to the USB Receipt Printer or Ethernet Receipt Printer with the included cable, the cash drawer will open every time you complete a cash sale. Or use the included keys to manually open.

But my point is that an adding machine paper-receipt looks unprofessional in some businesses.  An inexpensive ink jet or better, a multitasking network office printer that is already in use would make a LOT more sense for me.  I’m sure they are robust and work fine, they just don’t suit my business and I don’t like being so limited in the TYPE of printer I can use.

This printer is terrible. It always has connectivity issues and it is constantly jamming. Worst mistake i made for my business. We have to keep it off until we get a customer otherwise it keeps printing no host receipts and it jams. Called star micronics they said it was probably an issue on my end. WRONG! MY other register, which is hooked up by same switch board, has an Epson printer and it gives no issues. Do not buy this printer for your business. Go with an Epson. Same amount of $, no problems.

Another nice touch is that they include a CD which allows you to customize the printer (add logos, sync with POS systems, custom data to add once the receipt is printed, etc). Keep in mind though, this customization works with certain POS systems, not all. On Square, I can’t tell the printer to print out all of the extra stuff since the POS for Square is very simplified.

I do not nor do I need a receipt printer. All I want is a USB cash drawer that costs less than $235. Square, if you’re reading this, please add support for a wider variety of USB cash drawers. Your focus is small businesses. Not sure why you have only the most expensive cash drawer (more than 2x the Price of the Square Stand) as the only USB one supported). Every device that needs a Lightning-to-USB cable for syncing and charging comes with one. But when it comes to buying extras or replacements, we recommend skipping Apple’s cords and going with Anker’s PowerLine Lightning Cable for half the price. We measured the charging speed of almost 50 cables and then sent the top 11 to former NASA electrical engineer Sam Gordon for teardown analysis. Anker’s cable offers the same high-speed data-transfer capabilities as Apple’s own and will charge any device, including an iPad, at full speed—as long as it’s plugged into the right charger, of course. And Anker’s cable is even more resistant to damage than Apple’s offering. (If you’re looking for longer or shorter cables, we have picks for those in our full guide.)
The act of holding your head in a forward and flexed position during long periods can place the cervical spine in a detrimental position. By doing this repetitively, you can experience disc injury, muscular strain, shoulder pain, neck pain, headaches, and potential arthritic changes to the neck. It is essential that you understand how poor posture can lead to unwanted (and unnecessary) health issues involving the cervical spine. To avoid this it is recommended that you keep the upper body posture neutral and supported. Maintain a straight neck with relaxed shoulders and have your arms positioned at or near your sides.
Screen protectors I have used haven’t really shown fingerprints or oil. And I know plenty of people who have dropped their phones with a screen protector and the screen protector shattered or tore but the display underneath remained unscathed. I think screen protectors are pretty great and a necessary buy to protect a $650 + device. But that’s just my opinion. I hope you guys can look more into screen protectors I’d really like to see your guys’ research, testing, and conclusions.

There isn’t much I don’t like about Yohann except one minor issue that I wanted to point out. Without an iPad, Yohann’s weight distribution makes it rest in the middle position. When I put in my iPad, I usually flip it to the front position, for the most upright viewing angle. I probably do that because I leave my iPad on my nightstand most of the time. And even though I never watch Netflix or anything else while lying in bed, I figure if I did, that would give me the perfect viewing angle. When I grab my iPad, Yohann flips back to the middle position, making a clapping noise when it hits the surface of my nightstand.
When it comes to blockchain technology, one of the most common mistakes investors make is equating blockchain to bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Here’s how to invest in blockchain without buying any cryptocurrency.
Whether or not a minus is down to personal preference – we haven’t had it long enough to cast judgement on its durability in the long term. Otherwise the case feels soft, it’s good-looking and offers easy access to ports and buttons.

I am unfamiliar with Square and need to find out what administrative support they offer and how that compares with Paypal’s Reports and other payment processing such as invoicing, which I believe was mentioned in the post. I also have worldwide customers and utilize Paypal for all my transactions. Using Square’s reader service would mean going from one solution to shuffling two services.
ENTIRELY my fault for NOT reading the comments and looking for reviews before setting up with the square! They are holding my funds now because they need to verify my business? I’ve sent them everything I have, and they keep asking for the SAME information!! My client’s products have been shipped out, I’ve paid my vendor for the merchandise, but now I have nearly 5,000 that I can’t have access to for no reason. This is BULL.
I am having the same problem with them. They are holding $7800.00 of my business money. After processing 3 credit card payments I received an email from them stating that they have “suspended” deposits going into my account until I provide them with a bunch of documentation. I have provided them with the documents and got the famous message about them replying in 24 hours. I still have not received anything from them and they will not answer any emails. I still do not know why my account was suspended and have no idea when it will be opened back up. In the meantime, I have unhappy customers who want product and money tied up with SquareUp. They either need to release the money or refund the customers cards back so we do something different.
The credit card associations are owned by the issuing banks, and they have set it up to favor their customers (the card users), and to minimize their risk. Thus, to successfully dispute a chargeback, you have to have a lot of evidence–evidence that you almost never can have for an online sale.
I was concerned as the fact that there is no easy way of getting a hold of them till I Found there # on here and that # again is: 415-375-3176 The phone rang 2 times and it was answered! The guy was Nice, and understood what I was asking..
I’m not entirely sure how to do this, but I am 100% sure that everyone working for this company is a complete idiot. Do yourself a favor, pay your bank the annual fee for credit card processing. Maybe this is a great system for someone who sells candles at the farmers market on the weekend, but if trying to operate a real business with actual revenue, this is not for you.
…So our 10-year-old LLC started using Square Up back in April 2013 when we saw their funds delivery turnaround time and easy mobile app access, and everything seemed to be going well at a pace of ~$6,500 per month in transactions, until…
I tried to inquire, first by phone (not one to be found), then through their support. My inquiry is clearly attached to an autoresponder which points you to the direction of their legal agreement. I went through it, and really, just as the article indicates, they can terminate for any reason whatsoever.
We have been using Square for the past two years at our Bed & Breakfast. Setup was straightforward, as was info about what their system does and what we should expect. I was surprised by the number of responses from those expressing unfortunate experience. For our business, it has worked superbly and without error. Our business is primarily weekends, but even with busy weekends there has never been a delay in depositing funds. And, there are no fees to pay when we shut down for the winter and go a period without processing charges. It’s a slick system, but one that needs to be carefully assessed to insure expectations are met. Works great for us.
They held my account for verification and holding $2000 of mine from my online store. The guy from Square called me to verify my company, and said today we will release your funds. Then 3 days later, deactivated my account saying the hold will be for 90 days and then I will get my money. Stay Away from this Company.
If your POS software is not working properly and you have no way of getting this resolved quickly, then your business will quickly grind to a halt. This is why customer service for POS systems is so important. While both Square and ShopKeep have a range of support options, only ShopKeep has a phone support line.
I am nearing the end of my rope with square. I have been with them over 2 years and without direct access to a live human when I have an issue is inexcusable. They are a business and should have 24 hour support for those who need help or a way to have someone call you back immediately. My customer simply put the charge on the wrong card . .busy people do that . .now he might have to wait 7 days to get everything straightened out . . some people cant wait 7 days to have 500 put back in their account . . anyway . . If the do not fix this . .I will be looking for a new provider who is willing to answer customer concerns on a phone rather than trying to save money by doing everything over the internet . . .
I am aware of the stories that surfaced in August about Square’s dongle being used for fraud, but I’m not overly concerned about it. First, I believe much of the concern is over-hyped just because of Square’s huge popularity and buzz right now. Secondly, nearly any device (even the terminals at your grocery store) is hackable if the right people want to hack it. The difference is that when a security hole is found with Square, it turns into a firestorm of press simply because it’s Square – which is a company that also happens to be founded by the same person who founded Twitter. See what I mean?
I own several “classic” firearms like the M-1 Garand and a Martini-Henry, though not an AR-platform, which I shoot enough at work, to be honest (something half-submerged in my mind makes me think that in my house I don’t need a weapon designed exclusively for combat, either for sport or home defense—my German Shepherd is a much better platform for both).
I would not recommend Square. They are holding $13,700 of my money and I can not talk to anyone. Their customer service stinks. When you call the person on the other end of the line sounds like they are about 16 years old and when you ask to speak to a supervisor they reply that “our supervisors do not speak on the phone”.
His usage seems to be pretty standard for individuals. Kais Davis of Eugene said he used Square for “rent, settling debts with roommates, poker tournaments, selling collectables, craigslist.” Basically all the peer-to-peer payments a young man might make.
Been doing business with square for over 2 years. I do about $10000 a month I transactions . Never caused any issues for them . One small refund and that’s it. Sent me email today that they have to close my account immediately and hold my reserve of $4000 for 120 to 180 days. Said I was high risk business. 2 years of multiple transactions and no problems and all the sudden I am high risk. Holding my $4000 for 6 months . Stay away from square. I am not flyby night . Been in business for 10 years. I rent tv s and furniture.
Actually square is stilling money from his customer. Allow me to say it like that , I used square to collect a payment of $4992.60 since May 18 2017 from one of my client for a project , the money was withdraw from my customer account , but square never deposited the money to my account. Square does not have a Customer service , horrible customer service.
So the moral of the story here is: Square *DOES NOT* replace a standard merchant account if you have one, but it does allow you micro-businesses (or sole propietorships, which is the case with most individuals [i.e. barbers, hairstylists, dog trainers, etc]) to get started quickly and easily and with the least amount of overhead possible, which a standard merchant account typically has some kind of overhead fees associated with it, but then before deciding to accept credit cards in the first place, a merchant should probably already have a customer/client base, otherwise accepting credit cards can be a costly expense in the beginning, with PCI compliance, and other things to be concerned about.
You do know that it is the Bank that is taking the 2-3 days not PayPal. PayPal does not make interest on your money during that time when your bank is processing the funds, it is the bank’s hands. PayPal does not make any interest on your funds.
I have a business with a hospital’s buying dept and have made a wholesale for +$1400 Yesterday . This company, I am selling more then 4 years without any problem. The person in charge has paid the $ 375 with the visa gift cards that the management of the company decided to not use and the company credit card for the rest. We checked all the gift cards once more and put them in the garbage after being used. I have the proof of sale and the signature of the authorized buyer. How can they suspend my account ? HOW CAN THEY HOLD MY MONEY FOR 90 DAYS. No logical reason. There is also no phone number to communicate. My check is subject to bouncing and I lost my credit and terms with my supplier and may loose my buyer because of this silly reason. Cannot trust to square anymore. Better to pay a few dollars more but have a MERCHANT COMPANY YOU MAY TRUST.

The finance charge amount and installment payment amounts will depend on the repayment term selected. Sales tax, where applicable, cannot be financed and will be due upon acceptance of contract. We’ve been with Square for two years, and in trying to find an answer as to why it takes a week for our customers to receive a refund the rep. tried to make up some random answer. When my husband replied, “so apparently you don’t know, please give me a supervisor.” The rep. responded he didn’t have one. So maybe my husband was talking to the founder himself. So when my husband said we would be moving our business elsewhere, and he could pass that on to his non-existent supervisor. He said ok.
I have a small shop at the mall, square has been holding my funds for over 2 weeks now. I’ve been reading so many reviews and I know I’m not alone. I know this man in Texas and it’s been over 1 month and he has not received $14,000 and a lady out of Dallas and she has not received her $12,000. She has contacted the local news.
My paypal here reader no longer works with credit cards that have a chip, it used to when I first got it a few years ago. Now I have to type in the credit card information for cards that have a chip and I believe that costs a little more. I think it stopped working around the same time all the credit cards began getting chips. I can only swipe cards with no chip and just about all cards have chips now. I need to get a chip card reader now but I’m not sure which one I should buy.
Accept offline payments: If you get knocked offline, you can still accept payments, but only swiped payments. Chip cards and contactless payments require the internet. The system will store the information for 72 hours. If you don’t have internet within that time, the transaction expires. However, you do take full responsibility for expired or declined cards.

You can use any of our Square Compatible Receipt Printers with the Square Stand Hardware, this setup has the most options to choose from. It just depends how you want to connect to the Square Stand and how many stations you have. If you are connecting straight to the Square Stand via the USB hub, or with Bluetooth we offer the following Thermal Printers for printing Credit Card Receipts :
Unless proven otherwise, I agree.  And in my business, giving a client a receipt on what amounts to a piece of adding machine paper is unprofessional.  I should be able to use any printer that is compatible with the iPad, not just the uni-tasker receipt printers.
Effect printers just print order tickets for a cooking area. They’re not impacted by heat and can stand up to warm environments. They need heat-sensitive paper and will not deal with non-thermal, invoice printer paper.
*Note: We have had some Sellers complain about the receipts printing over too many pages when they want it to only print on one. The trick is to reduce the scale of the image within your printing options until it fits. (see screenshot)
These receipt printers are certified to be comaptible with Square Reader and Square Reader software for iPad, iPhone and Andoid.  Contact us if you have any questions about which printers, cash drawers or other components will work with your Square Reader application.  Get your business or store online today!

I know that the Square corporate line is that the APG Vasario VB554A-BL1616  is the only USB cash drawer that works with the Square Stand hub (which means you don’t need a printer, which is what I want). I am wondering if anyone has experience using a different, less expensive USB drawer with the Square Stand and USB hub?
Make sure not to send your customers’ receipts to yourself. You’ll receive a payment confirmation after every successful transaction, and you can view payment details from your online Square Dashboard.

Please help! I ordered a pos hardware bundle from Walmart.com and it’s not recognized by My square stand! Is there a way of “tricking” square stand into recognizing my usb receipt printer and cash drawer?

There are several reviews of this product, and the unit is physically about the size of three iPhone 4 stacked in a neat pile. It is intended to support between 7 and 10 printers before you need to buy a second device. I am not clear whether you can set this up from iOS, but it works well once you have it set up.
To create your own bar codes and labels, you’ll need to use a third-party application. At the moment, we don’t support bar code and label printers and can’t guarantee compatibility, but many customers have success using the DYMO Label Writer 450 and labels with Square.
Just click the Transaction and the Receipt will preview on the right-hand side. At the bottom, you’ll see the receipt number (ex: Receipt #H8R5). Click that and it will show you the digital version of the receipt. From there you’re good to print on the standard 8×11 printer paper.
Everything you need to get started taking in orders and money (except the iPad and the cash for the till!). Includes, Square credit card reader,  receipt printer with Ethernet interface, 2 rolls of receipt paper, 13″ wide cash drawer with till, and all cables for connecting the printer and cash drawer.
A printer-driven cash drawer must be connected to an receipt printer to open automatically. Otherwise you’ll need to manually open the drawer using the cash drawer key. A USB cash drawer (requires Square Stand) will open automatically when connected.

As VanKalkerFarms answer states, Point of Sale is not compatible with standard desktop printers at this time. A possible solution might be to view your receipts on your online Dashboard after the transaction is complete and you can print them from there on a desktop printer.
Pay Pal says this is compatible, but the few reps I have spoken with are not really familiar enough to guide me through. My LG Optimus phone runs T-Mobile 4g. I connected stand alone router(LAN?) to printer. I am guessing there is a conflict and I need to disconnect 4g or whatever wifi is connected to phone in order to pick-up signal from LAN router, assuming I can’t receive two simultaneous signals. That would disconnect me from Pay Pal transaction. Don’t know what I missing, but so far it’s a lot of wasted time and money. There’s no customer service that I can find with printer and the user guide is scant. I’ll take another look at Star website, but don’t expect to find a solution there. A USB connection would have likely prevented many issues/
With resistance to the most brutal environments, APG drawers feature sturdy steel frames powder coated in cloud white or black to resist scratches and other external abuse. Industrial grade steel ball bearing slides on the drawer won’t wear like silicon wheels and promote silky smooth opening and closing every time. Plan term and select coverage begins date of purchase and is inclusive of the manufacturer’s warranty. All other coverage begins after the manufacturer’s warranty expires. Plan is fully refunded if canceled within 30 days.
Impact printers only print order tickets for a kitchen. They’re not affected by heat and can withstand warm environments. They require heat-sensitive paper and won’t work with non-thermal, receipt printer paper.
I don’t have any personal use of this but this item says it takes usb input and converts it to the connection that would come out of the printer from what I understand.  It may work, it may not.  There are no reviews that are helpful of the product.

Last but not least, though I’m enough of a geek that the code itself would have been interesting and fun for me, it was really special getting to see first-hand how the product truly helped people. Meeting a merchant who had previously only been able to give out handwritten receipts, handing her a Bluetooth printer, and seeing how our new feature would make her job easier was the highlight of my summer.
Connect your Square Stand with a compatible iPad and recommended hardware accessories to help run your business. Before purchasing a Square Stand, make sure you’re using a supported iPad. You can identify your iPad model on Apple’s Support site.
When you connect to the USB Receipt Printer or Ethernet Receipt Printer with the included cable, the cash drawer will open every time you complete a cash sale. Or use the included keys to manually open.

Receipt Printer Compatible With Square, A cash drawer needs to be linked to an invoice printer to open immediately. Otherwise, you’ll have to buy hand open the drawer utilizing the money drawer secret. * This standard money drawer is not able to link to an invoice printer.
Please note, these printers can only be used with iOS devices at this time. I don’t have a timeline for when they’ll be supported with Android devices yet. But I’ll report back when I have an update! 😀
The STAR MICRONICS TSP654IIBI is fast and easy to configure. It is Apple MFi certified. It has auto connect and so it will connect to your iPad automatically. If you want to setup your receipt printer fast, this may be one of the best options. There is no serial cable, ethernet cable or USB connection. That seems like a positive benefit. If you move around a lot or you don’t want to mess with cables the STAR MICRONICS TSP654IIBI may be want you want.

First one we got was dead. Customer service is almost non-existent. Packaged it up and paid to ship back to repair center. Several weeks went by with no feedback, then received back the exact packaging with no note or anything to indicate what the issue was, or if it had even been fixed. It seems it has, but that process was a pain. Now it doesn’t like to stay visible on the network so we are always either re-booting or just telling people it’s broken. Turns out people don’t care all that much about paper receipts anyway. Recommend purchasing directly through Square if you really need it. At least then you might get some tech support.
Square introduces more ways to engage with customers. Square now integrates with cash drawers and receipt printers. With a single tap on an iPad, you can open your register’s drawer to complete a cash sale or make change. Please read the options below carefully before purchasing a cash drawer.
We recommend using the Square contactless and chip reader for a fast, seamless payment experience on all devices – not just those without a headphone jack. To accept magstripe-only cards, or gift cards, we recommend using the Apple Lightning to Headphone Jack adapter (included with the iPhone 7) to connect your Square magstripe reader. You might also try a third party USB-C to 3.5mm audio adapter, but please note that Square has not officially tested compatibility between the magstripe reader and other third party adapters.
If your customer entered an email address to receive a receipt from a Square merchant in the past, they may already be opted in to automatic receipts. These customers won’t be asked to enter their contact information after a sale, and a receipt will automatically be sent to their preferred email address.

We really like the Apple MFi certification with the auto connect feature. We also like the small footprint of this receipt printer. Overall this is one easy and fast printer to setup. The Apple MFi makes it real easy. You just turn the printer on within range of your iPad.

This is an impact printer. So it makes a noise when it prints. Why would you want this? You might want it if you are in an area such as a kitchen where thermal paper receipts don’t print as well because of moisture in the area. You would not want this noise around customers. But if you have a moist area such as a busy kitchen this impact printer may be what you can use. Here is the user manual for the Star Micronics SP742ML.
Unless proven otherwise, I agree.  And in my business, giving a client a receipt on what amounts to a piece of adding machine paper is unprofessional.  I should be able to use any printer that is compatible with the iPad, not just the uni-tasker receipt printers.

iPad-based POS (Point of Sale) systems have become increasingly popular. In addition to saving money on upfront costs, these systems have streamlined operations in the modern merchant and Square Register is quickly becoming one of the most convenient and coolest ways for small businesses to process transactions. Tablet and smartphone based systems are also being increasingly used for inventory control – from the retail floor to the warehouse – and by sales personnel assisting customers in-store and on the convention floor. The hardware options for Square Stand differ from those below. For Square Stand hardware options, or to learn how to set up hardware with Square Stand, click here: here.

I am sure that this has been asked and answered, but the search feature on this communities site is not very robust and the information I’ve been able to gather from square/communities is not entirely clear. So I am asking again (maybe).

The printer that Square supports is one of the largest used brands in the receipt printer market.  They are not getting kickbacks on printers as the printers are sold by hundreds of places including Amazon, and the buyer doesn’t know you are buying it to print with Square as the printer is also used by 100s of other POS systems. More printer options would always be better, but as this is one of the industry standard printers it only makes sense they support it.

If you are buying this for the Amazon Local Register payment platform, be sure to get the Ethernet version (not the USB version). This one only connects to your network and not directly to a computer.

My first inclination, having just taken a class in C++ using pthreads, was to simply use locks. I created a shared NSLock through a class method and locked before listening and printing, as described in Apple’s Threading Programming Guide. I was excited when it accomplished the mutual exclusion I wanted, but my coworkers were less thrilled about using such a low-level solution given the higher level abstractions available in iOS. In search of a higher-level solution, I replaced the global concurrent queue on which I was running the printer code with a serial dispatch queue, allowing only one block to be run at once. I was getting warmer, but my new solution still raised some concerns.
As a bluetooth only device, it is a bit glitchy. If you are wanting to use it with a phone/tablet only as a standalone device, look elsewhere. The miura m010 reader works great for this, though is unfortunately not available on amazon.
First and foremost, a little background info: I own my own business and have been using the Square Register POS system for over four years. I have a different kit, but they’re all similar products. When my friends decided to open their restaurant, they went with an old school cash register and struggled at the end of the night with keeping track of taxes because it was not as intuitive to use. I convinced them to order this kit from Amazon and the other necessary items elsewhere and helped them set everything up in less than 30 minutes. This kit provided an excellent, trusted printer and an easy to connect cash drawer. Upon arrival, I had an issue with the cash drawer – it would not open. A quick email (on a Sunday) to the seller, and he gave me advice and a link to an explanation as to how to fix the stuck drawer. Using his explanation took me a couple of minutes to fix it. I am a realistic person, and I understand that things don’t always go as planned, so I was happy the seller worked with me fast to come to a solution. I gave this five stars because of the customer service – you can find similar products elsewhere and they all work the same way… but the customer service provided made this an excellent purchase! Thanks EOM-POS!

Bought this strictly to print receipts with the Amazon Local Register iPad App and card reader, as it is the only receipt printer supported at this time by that platform. (Bought it used via an Amazon re-seller; works perfectly. It was easy to set up on the network using the downloadable Windows software. Once set up, my iPad and the Amazon Local Register app found the printer and linked to it easily. I haven’t tried using any of the other options (like printing our logo or printing coupons), but for what I bought it for it works perfectly. It prints extremely fast and clearly. The cutter works well, too. It is nice that it can be mounted to a vertical surface if desired.

I spent years in jobs that included lots of cash handling. This cash drawer is the nicest I’ve seen. It’s solid build will last for years and its finish is just lovely. It triggers cleanly and the drawer all but shoots out when triggered. I’m very pleased.
The STAR MICRONICS SM-T300I is also a light weight receipt printer. But it’s very durable and rugged. It’s also Apple MFi certified for iOS phone and iPads. It also works with Android and Windows. It’s been tested to take a little bit of beating and is used by people who are outside a lot. Having said that the price is higher than other printers. If you need something rugged, this device may be the one for you. But if you don’t. You will want to look at something else as this device can get expensive. The SM-T300i is easy to use. There is a well written and very detailed user manual. The user manual gives details on how to configure the receipt printer and how to load paper. Here is a link to the Star Micronics SM-T300i User Manual.
Square systems are primarily compatible with Ethernet or Bluetooth interface printers (depending on the tablet you are using, Android tablets with USB ports and USB On-The-Go or USB Host mode can use USB interface printers). The compatible printers for Square systems are as follows:
A simple print button on the tablet application would allow us to connect to a local or network printer and print the same form data. Why is this still impossible? Why can we still not utilize our desktop or local printers to print receipt data from the app?
I do appreciate your post though and I wanted to let you know that we are working to provide support for more printers and your feedback is welcome! For example, we recently launched support for several Epson printers which can be used with Square on iOS devices (the full list of printers is here).
Surely it can’t be that hard to come up with new drivers?

There are several reviews of this product, and the unit is physically about the size of three iPhone 4 stacked in a neat pile. It is intended to support between 7 and 10 printers before you need to buy a second device. I am not clear whether you can set this up from iOS, but it works well once you have it set up.

Atm it’s cheaper for me to use something else other than square, than to change the printer tablet setup. It appears other people have similar issues.

If the K811 is too pricey, or if you need a stand-alone keyboard for only occasional on-the-go typing, Logitech’s Keys-To-Go is rugged, spill-resistant, especially light, and about as thick as a binder cover. It doesn’t pair with multiple devices, and its membrane-style keys aren’t nearly as good as those on the K811, but they are full-size and well spaced, and nothing else slips into a bag or a carry-on as easily as this model.
The Aluminum alloy pole can be adjusted to any position and with its 1 meter (3.3feet) length the holder can easily be positioned to wherever you need it. The holder’s 360 degrees of rotation and gooseneck can be adjusted to whatever position is needed.

So here is our solution: a DIY adjustable-angle iPad stand for your lap. Inexpensive, cozy, and light. Designed for both portrait and landscape use, and ready to fold up for transport and storage. With a stand, you can use your ‘Pad with zero, one, or two hands, and sit how you darn well please.

The support shelf is wide enough that it should be able to accommodate the iPad without having to remove it from most portfolio-type iPad cases. Or if it’s still too thick when the cover is folded back and double, try flipping the case’s front closure flap up and back over the top of the iProp stand. This “in case mode” has the added advantage of extra protection for the iPad if you drift off while using it on your lap or in bed, and dump it onto the floor. My iPad 2 has suffered that indignity twice (caseless both times alas), and survived with only one tiny scratch on the aluminum enclosure that you really have to be looking for to notice.
On top of holding your iPad, this stand can also be used as a knife block with enough slots to accommodate up to four knives, meaning even when you aren’t using your iPad in the kitchen the stand is useful and not just taking up space on your counter. Plus, your iPad will fit snuggly into the cut-out groove that surrounds the entire tablet, so moving it around when you need to will be easy.
There are pockets inside the sleeve holder bag for an iPad Pro (up to 12.9-inch), Lightning cable, charger, two neat pen/stylus holders, and even space for a notepad and a wireless Apple Smart Keyboard.

A physical keyboard can be a boon to your productivity, as most people type more quickly and accurately on real keys than on a glass screen. However, though iPad keyboard cases are popular (and we have recommendations for some good ones below), we think many people would be better served by a stand-alone keyboard and a sturdy iPad stand. A stand-alone keyboard gives you a full-size keyboard with better keys and better ergonomics than a keyboard case. You can also still use your favorite iPad case, and you can leave the keyboard behind when you want to travel light. And if you ever upgrade your iPad, you won’t have to buy a new keyboard case. (The biggest drawback? Using a separate keyboard and stand on your lap is pretty tough.)

Designed to be the most stylish and modern holder, you can fix this stand either on your kitchen counterpart, study table, office desk, or at your nightstand. You can work freely on your iPad Pro without any worries of it tipping over. Further, its construction is such that it offers space on your desk and keeps your desk clutter-free.
But it’s the Qode Ultimate Pro’s versatility that makes it our top pick. Unlike most iPad keyboard cases, it lets you use your iPad in landscape or portrait orientation, with the latter especially useful when you’re working on documents or taking notes, and you can position the iPad at either of two angles. And while most models make it difficult to remove the iPad when you don’t need the keyboard, the Qode Ultimate Pro’s protective top case easily detaches from the keyboard, letting you bring just the iPad with you. Even better, that top case is a perfect fit for Apple’s Smart Cover, so you can keep your iPad completely protected. The oddly placed Siri button can be easy to press accidentally, and sometimes Belkin’s battery-conservation feature causes the keyboard to go to sleep too quickly, but none of the keyboard cases I’ve tested match the Qode Ultimate Pro in flexibility. (Belkin makes a less-expensive model, the Qode Ultimate Keyboard Case—without the “Pro” in its name—but I don’t recommend that one.)
No matter the task, the new iPad Pro is up to it — and then some. It offers far more power than most PC laptops, yet is delightfully simple to use. The redesigned Retina display is as stunning to look at as it is to touch. And it all comes together with iOS, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system.
Now this is a pretty innovative idea. It’s a stand that has bendy legs like a Gorillapod, so you can use it on sofas or a bed. It is not the most elegant or attractive of designs, but it does seem to work, which is the most important thing, I guess.
