After playing around with this some more. It is pretty quick when the phone and reader is kept closed together when the transaction is processing.. this set up cost around 4 dollars. Velcro and cheap phone case. Works perfect.

I just received my stand last night and I have to say out of the box, SUPER easy to use. It comes with 2 different types of mounts, the usb hub to plug in external things like receipt printers and cash drawers and even a barcode scanner. A lot of reviews said the Air 2 didn’t fit properly, but mine fit perfectly and they even include a special screw to hold it in the stand. I tested it and even picked it up an jiggled it. The ipad stayed in place. I will definitely be adding a receipt printer and cash drawer for my craft shows. Anyone on the fence should definitely give this a try!
One more critical thing, Square can handle transactions without Internet for up to 72 hrs, after that simply connect it to any Wifi and it will sync & batch all deposits automatically. It is simply not the case with all other terminals if your Internet is sporadic or unstable or lack bandwidth. VRX & Elavon m/c will reject the transaction in the middle of transaction and ask you to reset and cycle thru their initial power up programming, a major headache when there’s a line of impatient customers in front of you trying to pay and get back to work!

Press the “Send” button  and see if text is printed. If it has then test has passed. If it doesn’t then check the connectivity and the settings once again. If possible, you may want to test the printer off the network using a simple network switch or router connected to the printer and a single computer.
I bought the square stand, for my old iPad, but have since had to buy a new iPad.  Although, it does not fit the stand it still works in the stand.  I have wedged a piece of paper, (until I remember to go buy putty) under the bottom left corner, which keeps it in place.  Not perfect, but it works.  I tried to include a photo but it doesn’t seem to be an option.  If anyone would like me to send a photo of what that looks like just email me.

The Square stand is very durable and to my surprise heavier than it looks. The swivel mount is built into the bottom of the device and conceals the power cord. This cord is connected to a 3 port USB module that will allow users to connect up to three separate POS devices in addition to connections with wireless LAN POS devices like receipt and label printers. Although not official, the Square stand can hold an iPad Air 2 pretty perfectly. I would suggest placing a small foam dot or so, just so that it is seamless to the stands edges. So I like the stand and it would get a 5 star review, but I’m not exactly sure that I got a brand new item or not. The product came in the most amazing package, would remind you of Apple…but on the front of the stand frame around the ipad there are tiny scratches, it’s not smooth like you’d expect something brand new to be. Also the swipe part that actually runs the card through, the plastic is ill fitting. You can squeeze the back wall of this part and the plastic is bulging out at least 1mm or two and you can see it’s not sitting flush with the rest of the stand…The seams should be spot on like they are with the rest of the stand…but they’re not. Would love to exchange it and give another stand a try, maybe I just got a funky one?
I know there is a need to conserve battery.. but there should also be a mode where it is always connected and ready to use. It seems like to me at times, it needs to ‘think” for a while before any light flashes..
