An update 11/21/15 Had it working fine with Amazon local register until Amazon shut it down, so bought the PayPal chip and card reader- the updated paypal iOs app will not print to this printer. (iOs 9.1/ iPad 3). The workaround I found was to turn this printer in to an airprint printer- it’s a bit of a hack, instructions are out there, problem being you must have a host computer on the network. To be clear- this is a PayPal issue- not a fault of the printer.
Got this so I could print receipts for my customers paying in person with a card, chip or smartphone. I use PayPal Now with an Android tablet and PayPal card reader. The printer was easy to set up and works very well. The only thing I have not been able to do is print my company logo at the top of the slip. However, the company name, address, phone number, and email prints. I think this is a function, and thus a problem of PayPal, not the printer. So I’m not blaming the printer at all. However, it would be nice to have my logo on the receipt and the ability to print a coupon or something too.
Another nice touch is that they include a CD which allows you to customize the printer (add logos, sync with POS systems, custom data to add once the receipt is printed, etc). Keep in mind though, this customization works with certain POS systems, not all. On Square, I can’t tell the printer to print out all of the extra stuff since the POS for Square is very simplified.
The TSP143III is the faster, easier, and better POS printing solution. Already a leading player in the mPOS market, Star Micronics’ TSP143III is offered with WLAN, LAN, Bluetooth, or USB interface connection for an easy-to-use and ready-to-go installation. The TSP143III now offers a web configuration page for the WLAN and LAN TSP143III printers, a simpler wat for all devices to connect to the WLAN printer for set-up with AP mode, an easy Bluetooth pairing connection, and a “plug and play” USB connection. For the USB version, there will be a new USB serial number feature so the PC will detect the TSP143IIIU on its Windows platform using any USB port. The new thermal receipt printer is an upgrade of the TSP100, printing at almost twice the speed with a special de-curl function, and it fully compatible with its previous version, requiring no additional integration or development.

We first bought the Wifi model and couldn’t get the manufacturer or Square to figure out how to make the two communicate, even though it’s supposed to be supported. We were told to return that and switch to this blue tooth model. Now this one won’t communicate with Square either. It’s the only receipt printer that Square publishes it supports. We don’t have any odd setup, all brand new peripheral equipment, new iPad, Square stand/Register. Hours on support with both and no resolution to date.
Had 3 of these in my place to on cash draws one in the kitchen they work well as long as there is no internet/WiFi drop off. Using it with couple IPad Airs and Square register app for several years. When I loose internet or sometimes they seem to disconnect from the register even when I don’t have internet problems and they usually have to powered off and on. Also in the mean time my cash draw wont open and I have to find the key. Being so annoyed I with connection issues I have since replaced them with the USB versions (except the kitchen one) and all my problems stopped.

I’m not sure why there are so many mixed up reviews and answers to the questions. I have two iPad without a square stand. This easily connected to my cash drawer and WiFi router. BOTH iPads are connected to the receipt printer and BOTH can print at the same time as well as open up my cash drawer. The receipt are thick enough to read and make orders off of and the font size is nice. If you take orders with your iPad but do not have a square stand and need a printer that will connect to multiply iPads this is what you are looking for!!

Edit to say that the network issues I mentioned were tied to the wireless router we were using. Replaced that piece and the printer started working great. I still recommend purchasing as a package for better price and customer service, but not a bad piece of equipment.
I bought this printer when I converted my business to Square. It is awesome! Now my servers can take a small tablet to the tables, place the order and press “PRINT” and the ticket prints in the kitchen without the server needing to drop it off. Saves a lot of time and effort, especially when it’s busy!
First one we got was dead. Customer service is almost non-existent. Packaged it up and paid to ship back to repair center. Several weeks went by with no feedback, then received back the exact packaging with no note or anything to indicate what the issue was, or if it had even been fixed. It seems it has, but that process was a pain. Now it doesn’t like to stay visible on the network so we are always either re-booting or just telling people it’s broken. Turns out people don’t care all that much about paper receipts anyway. Recommend purchasing directly through Square if you really need it. At least then you might get some tech support.
Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) is a service we offer sellers that lets them store their products in Amazon’s fulfillment centers, and we directly pack, ship, and provide customer service for these products. Having a quick and reliable printer is crucial for any retail and restaurant business. Boasting a print speed of 43 receipts per second, and the guillotine styled auto-cutter, transactions will always end with a brisk print and clean cut. Adding the drop in paper loading and AllReceipts digital receipt app, the TSP100III is a must have for mobile point of sale.
Overall, seems to be a decent printer to use with an iPad-based point of sale system. However, after about 3 weeks, the printer stopped cutting the receipts & went into an error mode that the owner’s manual said was “non-recoverable”. I contacted Star Micronics customer service & shipped to their repair facility. They got it back to me within 3-4 days & everything was covered under the warranty, minus the cost to ship the printer to them. So far, it seems to be working as expected since I got it back from being repaired. Perhaps I just got a bad one that came off the assembly line & somehow managed to slip through quality control.
The brand NEW addition to our TSP100 line, the TSP143III is twice as fast and includes a new easy setup technology for effortless connection to your tablet. That paired with the new de-curl function and “drop-in & print” paper loading makes the TSP143III the best POS printer on the market.
Wall Mountable Need more counter space? Create more room by mounting the printer to the wall. The futurePRNT Configuration Utility allows for Text Reversal so the receipt is printed to face the user.
