Before beginning, you will need WiFi at your location and access to the router. These printers are not wireless and must be plugged into a router via physical ethernet connection in order to connect wirelessly with the iPad.
The STAR MICRONICS SM-T300I is also a light weight receipt printer. But it’s very durable and rugged. It’s also Apple MFi certified for iOS phone and iPads. It also works with Android and Windows. It’s been tested to take a little bit of beating and is used by people who are outside a lot. Having said that the price is higher than other printers. If you need something rugged, this device may be the one for you. But if you don’t. You will want to look at something else as this device can get expensive. The SM-T300i is easy to use. There is a well written and very detailed user manual. The user manual gives details on how to configure the receipt printer and how to load paper. Here is a link to the Star Micronics SM-T300i User Manual.

It is a simple process all I can think is that square gets a percentage of royalties from their supported printer sales and thats why they are locking everything down to these ridiculously overpriced pieces of equipment.
You don’t need to screw around with the extra settings, just turn on the cash drawer before/After print and be done. All of that coupon set up, barcode stuff on there is good but is best to use within your software development for better control but it too is useful. I use code 3-9 and scanner picks it right up for my transaction numbers. Now you do have programming options to setup the cutter and all of that but for those needing something fo there store on a quick, serve my customers base, this is by far the best and a heck of a lot cheaper that the t88 models by which I don’t see any difference by any means

A simple print button on the tablet application would allow us to connect to a local or network printer and print the same form data. Why is this still impossible? Why can we still not utilize our desktop or local printers to print receipt data from the app?
USB port: these are much more common, especially in the newer model EPSON receipt printers. You’ll find these port types on everything from smartphones to flash drives to, well…printers! Choose the “Create a USB port” option if the port you’re plugging into looks like this one:
Had 3 of these in my place to on cash draws one in the kitchen they work well as long as there is no internet/WiFi drop off. Using it with couple IPad Airs and Square register app for several years. When I loose internet or sometimes they seem to disconnect from the register even when I don’t have internet problems and they usually have to powered off and on. Also in the mean time my cash draw wont open and I have to find the key. Being so annoyed I with connection issues I have since replaced them with the USB versions (except the kitchen one) and all my problems stopped.
*Note: We have had some Sellers complain about the receipts printing over too many pages when they want it to only print on one. The trick is to reduce the scale of the image within your printing options until it fits. (see screenshot)

Once the printer is powered up, make sure your Android device is on the same network as is the printer. Next, fire up the Square App, log into your account, and swipe right from the left edge of the screen. From the sidebar, tap Account, and then tap Settings. The Settings window (Figure A) should list Printers — tap that and select the printer to be used.

There are three different types of bill/POS printers depending on the printing method namely thermal based, dot-matrix based and inkjet based printers. Thermal bill printers are popular for their ease of printing, noiseless operation and fast printing speed. Dot-matrix printers are popular due to their economical prices.  If your company does not have many receipts/bills to print, then inkjet office printers can also be used for billing purposes. Some critical factors to consider before buying a POS printer include printing speed (no. of bills per minute), printing width, manual/auto-cutter mode and type of PC connectivity mode (serial, USB, parallel, Ethernet).  It is recommended that billing printers with battery back-up be bought if there are frequent power cuts.

Don’t let the number of fields in this window intimidate you. Like parallel port configuration, serial port configuration is actually not typically a big deal. The APD app usually automatically detects the first available COM port for your printer installation, and if that one doesn’t seem to work when you test it, you’ll just need to select the next one in the list and save the configuration change (and run a test print job for each) until you find the one that successfully prints out a test page (just like with parallel port configuration). The remaining fields in the window almost never need to be altered.

Atm it’s cheaper for me to use something else other than square, than to change the printer tablet setup. It appears other people have similar issues. Square managment need to grasp the economics here of only catering to a small hardware segment(Star printers) of the market, while marketing themselves as a simple DIY eftpos POS for small businesses, who burn themselves on compatability issues. Hopefully Square can solve this issue.

Parallel port: these port types have 25 connectors, or “pins”, and are usually found on older model EPSON receipt printers.
