As a product offered by Square, Square Register is advertised in the same way that Square credit card processing is advertised. When it comes to transaction fees, contract terms, equipment costs, and add-on services, Square is exceptionally transparent. The company maintains a very simple pricing structure and does not bury hidden costs in a complicated contract. Its quoted pricing for Square Register hardware and software additions is clear.
Perform a test print. Most Epson printers have a self-test function. Refer to your manual for instructions on how to do this. Usually, it is just a matter of depressing one button while pushing power.

I am still trying my best to use it. My POS system doesn’t support Star. and now I am having the common problem that I am dealing with Star tech support, they are still working on it to solve the problem, which is it doesn’t print out All Receipts bar-codes on my machine even from their own configuration utility, can’t use Receipt Flip, it doesn’t cut off the receipt automatically, doesn’t print out my full store name in every other receipt, and sometimes the receipt goes out 2 feet long.

If text is printed, test passes. If the printer passed this test but failed the Windows driver test previously then go back and check the the port settings in Windows driver to see that they are the same as used in the direct connection test. Verify the connection type (i.e. serial) and the port settings (i.e. 19200 baud, COM 1, etc) are the same.

Square still offers its traditional Square Stand and add-on hardware components for iPad, iPhone, and Android under the name “Square for Retail,” but it’s clear that the company is now promoting Square Register as the preferred option for retailers. Merchants who opt for the company’s original iPad-based product lineup should be prepared for the possibility that support and development for those products may be phased out in the near or distant future.

Everything worked exactly as it should, straight out of the box without any problems! It was easy to setup using the StarMicronics LAN & Bluetooth Setup Tool as well as the Configuration Utility TSP100. Once I configured my connection and established my IP address for the printer it was ready to use. Took about 10 – 15 minutes to setup everything. Definitely recommend for anyone wanting a receipt printer over IP.

Absolutely worst customer support, if you can even say they have customer support. As mentioned in the article, you have to have a customer code to get access to a human, otherwise the automated system will disconnect the call. If you don’t have it written down, and you have a login problem, forget getting any phone support. They will also conveniently disable your customer code in certain situations so they do not have to talk with you. I’ve had 2 significant issues with them over the last two years that left the company in a bind. I’ve also had funds sit for over 4 weeks waiting for deposit with real no explanation on why. Happy to no longer be relying on them for credit card services. Do not recommend.

Unfortunately, I found this out after the 30 day return policy on my purchase has passed. Also unfortunately, this seller (despite being very polite) was firm in refusing to let me exchange my purchase for a cash drawer I could actually use.
Update: After several months this printer is still working strong and still haven’t had a problem with it. I noticed a couple of people complain about receiving the wrong printer- well the reason they received the wrong printer is because they ordered the wrong printer. The title plainly states the model is TSP143U, USB. TSP143U is the USB model, hence the U. If you need the ethernet model you’ll need one of the TSP143L series models.

According to multiple professional and user reviews, Square’s products receive praise for their sleek design, ease of use, and low cost. For smaller merchants in need of a robust point-of-sale product for a reasonable cost, the service provides a wide array of integrations and features. The data tracking and reporting offered through the app is helpful for merchants trying to grow their businesses, and the accounting integration saves businesses the trouble of manually entering payment information into QuickBooks or Xero. Hardware compatibility (for receipt printers, etc.) is also a big plus for merchants who seek a gentle transition from traditional registers to a cloud-based service like Square.
