Either you are a ringer or you have been unusually lucky. Either way I simply don’t believe your story. If this is such a reputable company, why don’t they have customer service number like Paypal or Intuit? Don’t you find it a bit strange that a financial company (which by the way, is not governed by banking laws) has no way for its customers to contact them? Do you really think that all of these stories are from people that don’t know how to do business. That’s ridiculous. This company is a fraud! And by the way, can you explain why they pay back money they withhold in monthly installments? If they held the money they should pay it back in one lump sum back to the account it was held from. Seems like a case of borrowing from Peter to Pay Paul. They are just moving money around and it’s catching up with them.
Problem2: Involves the use of Modifiers, but similar to problem1. I sell cookies. I have different prices based on quantity purchase, 6, 12 and 36. I want to offer modifiers like nuts or chips. The problem is similar to problem1, in that I can’t set the price for the modifiers based on the different price points. The cost of my modifiers would cost more for the increase in the pricepoint purchased.
Customers also did not get a receipt right then and there for their purchase…they had the option of no receipt or one sent electronically to their email, but most people were hesitant to give email info. Signing their receipt on the phone using a stylus was also a little hard for some people to get used to. (“Does my credit card info and signature get stored on your phone? What if you lose it?” etc gave rise to a whole new set of reassurances that then had to be made!!)

Everette, great article all around. What you guys are doing at growthhackers.com is so very valuable and I constantly find myself navigating around your site. I’m excited to read the next article you put together.
I was very happy when i first got square about 6-7 months ago. I’ve only done 3 transactions using cc most of my business is done with cash. I’ve never had a problem until 2 days ago I recieved an email stating a withdraw was made and to contact customer support which is almost impossible after emailing them to find out why I was charged i received an email stating they will contact within 24 hours well 36 hours later and no response. Ive called the number and got a voicemail and emailed them again with no response. Ive contacted my bank to dispute this and when I get this situation taken care of I will be deleting my account. Square has no customer sevice so beware if theres a problem you will see NO results. And I do have proof as i have copied the emails ive sent. You’ve been warned.
My paypal here reader no longer works with credit cards that have a chip, it used to when I first got it a few years ago. Now I have to type in the credit card information for cards that have a chip and I believe that costs a little more. I think it stopped working around the same time all the credit cards began getting chips. I can only swipe cards with no chip and just about all cards have chips now. I need to get a chip card reader now but I’m not sure which one I should buy.
i to had problems with them they are holding 975.00 of my money for 90 days and will not answer my e mails or any questions on the phone they suck for custmer service if i ran my business this way i would be out of busniess they are a scam stay way
Launched my online business and managed to get £500 worth of transactions in the first week of launching. Suddenly I receive a message stating that my account would be closed as of immediately with no prior warning and funds held for 90 days!!! The email was filled with ambiguity – no clear answers at all! I called their line only to be faced with a vile unapologetic woman who simply couldn’t comprehend why I was furious. I spoke courteously but was understandably upset so was raising my voice slightly while demanding answers (which she did not). She told me she would hang the line up if I raised my voice and was rude. I told her I wasn’t being rude. I’m understandably upset and want answers. Nothing was resolved and I was left with a website that had no payment gateway for an entire day and lost out on numerous sales not to mention the funds these crooks are holding. This is criminal mafia behavior to say the least. There is no reason for you to hold my funds for that long and particularly without proving any reason. The founder of Square should stick to what he’s good at – social networks! From what I understand this is a very common practice of theirs. business faced a huge setback as a startup due to all of this and I wouldn’t wish this on anybody! AVOID THEM!!!
Thanks for reading! Square is trying to improve their support, but there have been issues. Did you you get your unique 12-digit “Customer Code” aka Customer Support Code via the Support page? For each issue you have, you must generate a new support code in order to use phone support. If so, it’s possible that your code expired or timed-out. While I can’t say the system is perfect, I have been able to use the phone support before. So I’m hoping this is an isolated issue. Please come back and let us know if you make any progress with this.
Square does business incorrectly. They dont even have a good phone line customer service help. Everything is through email. They issue refunds on the drop of a dime just to someone that wants their money back. [otp_overlay]
