Compared to the competing printers, you get the same quality printer and cost but with the wide support of the Epson brand. This unit worked very well out of the box. Yes, it would have been nice to find instructions, or even a url for where to find the manual, but some kind souls have posted about that in the q&a, so no biggie. But yesterday I plugged it in to charge, after. It using it for a couple of weeks, and no joy. The unit shows no sign of life at. I have removed the battery, checked and wiped the connections, etc etc. The return window closed 26 days ago so looks like I’m screwed 🙁 I’m dismayed to have spent $295 (including taxes) for a paperweight, and not sure what to do next. 😩

i picked up some ncr receipt paper also, which works great in the printer. print quality is excellent, and the speed is plenty fast. the cutter also works very well. the footprint is small enough that the printer fits neatly behind the monitor, on top of the cash drawer. servicing the printer is also very easy, as all you need to do is open the top, toss in a new roll of paper, and make sure some extra paper is sticking out the top when you close it; no feeding paper through rollers or any of that headache. it does all the work for you.

Printer works great with Square after you manage to get it to connect. The very first thing you want to is to set dip switch #3 to off. To do this, locate the tiny plate on the bottom that is held on by a Philips screw and remove the plate. The dip switches are there. Then, after installing the wifi link device, connect it to your computer’s Ethernet using the included cord and configure the wifi adapter. Star Micronics suggests using the client mode. I had to use the bridge mode to get it to successfully connect to my hotspot. Don’t forget to change the password from the default setting, by clicking the System Tools on the menu while you’re setting it all up.
6. Go back to printers and devices and write down the COM port the starmicronics printer entry is using, you can do this by right clicking the printer and choosing properties. there will either be a port tab or a hardware in there that will list the port above the entry for the BT device.

The only troubleshooting I had to do after, occurred after a Windows update. The port the 2nd starmicronics entry in Printers and Devices had changed port numbers. I just repeated step 6 and then made the 2nd starmicronics entry in printers and devices match that of the entry that is auto installed when you pair the printer the first time and I was golden. I’ve rebooted numerous times since then and it has retained the port.
