About The Author: Camille Meehan, POSLady since 2011, is the dame to talk to when you’ve got a printing question. The host of many POSGuys videos she now pulls the strings in the shadows of Ask POSGuys, plotting total global printer domination. She rules over the kitchen printers with an iron ribbon smashing fist, a BA in design, and over eight years print/design experience. Note: Camille does get this TM-U220 question a LOT and for her sanity, this post now exists.
Compared to its predecessor, the TM-U200, the TM-U220 receipt printer is 30% faster, sports a 4k buffer vs the original 1k, and comes with a universal power supply. Other TM-U220 distinguishing qualities include the exclusive Epson Connect-It interface, adjustable paper widths, real drop-in paper loading, “near-end” and “paper-out” sensors, and a 2-year warranty.
The TSP143 printer also offers free access to Star Cloud Services, which transform it into a cloud-connected device. Star Cloud services and tools – such as Star AllReceipts, a free, secure digital receipt solution – can help you better engage with your customers.

100% Compatible with Square POS. We are using square stand with ipad and we simply attached the printers (we have 2 registers) and they showed up right away. No programming or drivers are required. Nice little thermal printer for the price and it’s a name brand, so I hope will last a while.

Nice little portable printer. It isn’t as slow as some of the reviewers mentioned, and we use it with Square, so it will print a custom photo-based logo right onto the receipt. One reviewer said you had to pay extra to remove the Star logo – this was not my experience, however. We bought the neck strap, and a padded camera-type case to carry the printer, power supply, extra battery, Square card readers.

On the most recent model of the Star Micronics TSP650II Bluetooth wireless receipt printer (model number 39449871), auto-connect is enabled. This means that after you’ve paired your printer with your iPad, the Bluetooth connection is established automatically every time the printer’s switched on and in range of your iPad.
In addition to easy drop in & print paper loading and print speed of 80mm per second, the SM-T300 also features an LCD display, magnetic stripe reader and comes standard with a Bluetooth connectivity.
If you’re using model number 39449871, then resetting will leave auto-connect enabled, although you will need to pair your devices again. On older models, you’ll have to re-connect the printer manually or re-enable auto-connect after you’ve paired the printer with your iPad.
Hi this is Travis with POSGuys dot com today we’re reviewing the Epson TM-T22 Receipt Printer or the TM20 II Ready print receipt printer. This is their mid-level receipt printer, it’s their cheaper thermal receipt printer, the best thermal printer they have is the TM-T88V. This is a step below speed wise and warranty wise but it’s still a great all around receipt printer for most retail set-ups.

So the TM-T20 II has about a thirty percent increase in print speed verse the previous model when printing receipts. Has a pretty good print speed and auto-cutter, it has the variable size font, it can print graphics, it can print barcodes, a good all-around print speed. The print speed is adequate compared to receipt printers from about 5 or 6 years ago, it’s as fast as any of them. Compared to the top receipt printers like the Epson TM-T885, it’s a bit slower, but unless you’re like a grocery store or a very high volume retail establishment, you probably don’t need maximum print speed- 200 millimeters per second is going to be fast enough.
High quality, fast printing now goes mobile. The Star SM-T300i thermal printer is designed to print standard three inch format receipts anywhere. IP54 certified with resistance to dust and splash, the Star SM-T300i thermal printer will withstand any element while going anywhere you go.
If auto-connect is not enabled, you need to connect the paired printer manually every time you turn it on. To do this, tap the printer name in the Bluetooth DEVICES list in your iPad Settings (not the Shopify POS app setting).

The TM-T20II has dual interfaces : USB and Serial ; whereas, the very first generation printer was just USB or Serial interface.

We first bought the Wifi model and couldn’t get the manufacturer or Square to figure out how to make the two communicate, even though it’s supposed to be supported. We were told to return that and switch to this blue tooth model. Now this one won’t communicate with Square either. It’s the only receipt printer that Square publishes it supports. We don’t have any odd setup, all brand new peripheral equipment, new iPad, Square stand/Register. Hours on support with both and no resolution to date.
While your printer is in pairing mode, tap the Star Micronics printer in the DEVICES list on your iPad. After a short pairing process, the printer will show as Connected, and the LED on the back of the printer will become a solid blue color:
The device works great. Our only issue is in the description. The description states that it is for iOS/Windows/Android. However when the unit arrived it states iOS only. We probably would not have ordered it knowing that.

The only troubleshooting I had to do after, occurred after a Windows update. The port the 2nd starmicronics entry in Printers and Devices had changed port numbers. I just repeated step 6 and then made the 2nd starmicronics entry in printers and devices match that of the entry that is auto installed when you pair the printer the first time and I was golden. I’ve rebooted numerous times since then and it has retained the port.
The TM-T20II comes with multiple ease-of- use features from drop-in paper loading and autocutter to status LEDs and more. And it also offers optional printer placements including horizontal or upright for front receipt dispensing or vertical wall placement using a special hanging bracket.
Nice dot matrix receipt printer for use in a commercial kitchen to print out orders. It’s a larger printer compared to the thermal printers and it’s quite loud. Not a bad thing in a kitchen as the chef will hear the printer when a new ticket is up. It does by the way have a buzzer jack so when a ticket is printed the buzzer goes off as well. Easy to set up even without instructions that were not included in the box, nor was the power cord. I think I received a used or returned unit so hopefully instructions and a power cord should be included. Star has a very good website with all documentation online. I believe this printer will work well in the kitchen environment. Be sure to stock up on ribbons & paper. Also, be careful who this or any other product for that matter is sold by. If it’s not sold by Amazon.com there most likely will be a different return policy than the easy & liberal Amazon.com return policy. This is why I did not return the item since the seller I purchased from (Antonline) had such a restrictive and arrogant return policy, I thought I’d be in for a fight. Since it worked & I had a power cord I just kept it, it wasn’t work the potential aggravation.
The TM-U220 is a robust, high performance impact receipt printer which is exceptionally easy to use. Featuring drop-in paper load, selectable auto-cutter and clamshell covers for easy access and maintenance, the TM-U220 is very reliable and prints on plain paper in three widths.
The TM-T20II prints both text and graphics on receipts at speeds up to 200mm/second. It also features crisp, clear printing of logos, coupons and barcodes. In addition, the TM-T20II offers paper saving options that can reduce paper usage by up to 30%.
The TM-22 is a great all-around receipt printer, especially if you’re a low volume retail establishment. It’s quiet, its decently fast, about 30 percent faster than the older TM-T20 receipt printer. The warranty is 2 years, which isn’t quite as good as the 4 year warranty on the TM-T88 V, the speed also isn’t quite as good, but it’s still a good all-around receipt printer and something you should consider if you want a better printer than an impact printer but you don’t want to spend the full price of the TM-T88 V.
