Started out problematic. Used with Square stand, had issues with connectivity, paper cutting, and printing gibberish. Updated printer- couldn’t tell any difference. BUT then Square had an update and it has since worked very well. Matches the Square stand which apparently is a big deal with my spouse and customers like it too.
Can I ask if this issue with android and receipt printing to the Star SM 220-i got sorted out? I have the same problem, from various Android devices, and wanted to make sure I’m not wasting my time with a printer/phone combination that won’t work.

I’ve only had it up and running for a couple of weeks now, but it prints and cuts the receipts well and have yet to have any problems with it. Drivers disc makes setting up and installing a snap, and it comes with any/all necessary cables. It even comes with a mount for wall mounting, but in looking at it I’m not sure how you would do that or even why someone might want to 🙂
My USB receipt printer was working just fine and suddenly it stopped. I restarted the software, the app, and the printer, and nothing. I deleted and re-added the Square POS app. I’ve even tried a new printer, and nothing works. When I try setting up a new printer station in the app, no printers are listed as connected–it simply says “station disabled.” I’m not sure what else to try at this point, and I have not been able to get Square support over the phone nor have they responded to my email inquiry.

With dedicated photo printers, almost any inkjet or thermal dye printer will at least match the output quality you’ll typically see in drugstore prints. ZINK technology is currently limited to printers with either a 2-by-3- or 4-by-6-inch print size, and offers lower-quality output, which is best described as good enough for photos that will wind up in a wallet or behind a refrigerator magnet. Whatever printer you’re considering, be sure to check on the output quality before buying.

As I mentioned above, there are VERY few non-HP printers that are compatible with HP’s JetDirect protocol. The Canon ImageRunner series (big and expensive) may have JetDirect or port 9100 capability) but smaller one do not. These printers can only be connected using the “remote printer” method in SAM (or lpadmin).
